Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, Emma attended the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. For several years she was enrolled in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing, dancing and acting. When she was ten, she had performed and taken the lead in various Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditions of 8. They were cast as the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. It also was the most successful film during 2001. Its opening weekday and weekend the sales were record breaking. Critics have praised both the film and the performances by the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Later Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an Feature Film.
